The Gendered Language of American Pop Music
Web designer, data cleaner, predictor builder
Myself, Avery Kim, ‘22, Jennie Kim, ‘22
OVERVIEWMy team wanted to explore lyrical data from Pop Music to see if there is a difference in the language that male pop artists and the language that female pop artists use. We chose to study pop music because of the recognizability and accessibility of playlists. To explore this data we used the Spotify and Genius APIs.
You can view our project website to read more in depth on our data exploration, process, and results. I built the website with HTML/CSS and host it on our Wellesley server. You can access the website with a guest username and password. Please reach out to me if you would like those credentials to view the site (we do not want to publically publish those).
